Phishing scam targets India corporate banking customers
Internet users in India have been warned to watch out for a phishing scam, which could leave them fleeced out of their salaries, it has emerged.
According to the Times of India, a report stating "your account is being upgraded for security reasons
Please update your details within the next 24 hours," has been put out by cyber crooks targeting paid workers.
Internet banking customers with corporate accounts are the main target of the cyber crooks, said the paper, and the trend - which was first noted in 2006 - is on the increase.
Four Bangalore-based private banks that have the majority of corporate accounts are the main target and their customers have been warned that following the instructions in the message could leave them out of pocket.
According to the newspaper, Bangalore Cyber Crime Cell saw 47 cases reported in 2007 and this year has so far seen some 33 cases.
The news comes amid revelations that Hyderabad is increasingly turning into a hacker's den.
