Phishing 'increasing in sophistication'
Phishing has developed into a far greater threat as it has increased in sophistication, a firm has suggested.
UK banking security specialist Cronto has warned of a new weapon which has been added to cybercriminals' arsons, known as Man in the Middle or Man in the Brower.
This malware targets the consumer while they are connected to their bank, effectively stealing their money while they are contacting the institution.
Cronto explained that a Man in the Middle attack enables a criminal to set up a copy of a website which he or she induces their victim to visit.
"The criminal passes through all information to the bank's real web site so the customer is unaware of the attack but the criminal has the opportunity to modify the conversation and remove funds from the customer's account," the company warned.
Earlier this month, the British Bankers' Association created new banking codes which make consumers responsible for adequately protecting their data by using anti-virus software, anti-spyware programs and firewalls.
