Phishing gangs 'using email and malware'

Phishing gangs have begun to use Trojans as part of a two-pronged attack on their victim, it has been claimed.

An article posted on WebUser has asserted that in addition to sending emails which entice the user to give up sensitive information, the messages infect the machine with malware.

This malware lies dormant until it senses that the computer is visiting a banking website and then activates and steals the information, sending it to the cybercriminal behind the infection.

UK resource Bank Safe Online urges users to be wary of all unsolicited emails and to be ready to recognise potential phishing emails to avoid falling victim to online threats such as identity theft.

It warns that banks expect consumers to take reasonable precautions to ensure their computers are not vulnerable to data theft which could result in their accounts being hit by a theft.

However, the organisation encourages Britons to continue banking online as long as they do not relax their guard.
