Phishing fighter marks milestone with half a million phishing hits
A specialist phishing spotter and fighter is celebrating two years of phish fighting that have seen it record half a million individual phishing attacks.
For two years, OpenDNS's award-winning navigation service PhishTank has helped make the internet safer by spotting and reporting online threats associated with phishing.
As well as spotting and reporting the internet security threats, the anti-phishing service has helped make the internet "faster, smarter and more reliable" and its creators say they are gunning for more.
"We wanted to create a clearinghouse of the most accurate and up-to-date phishing information anywhere, and make it available to everyone. We've accomplished that goal," said David Ulevitch, founder of OpenDNS.
"As with any milestone, our ideas of what is now possible have only grown and we look forward to another year of amazing growth at PhishTank and OpenDNS."
Anyone can submit, verify, track and share phishing information on PhishTank, which is a free use community website operated by OpenDNS. The data is used to help users avoid internet security pitfalls.
