Phishing email 'threatens recipients'
A new phishing email which tries to threaten recipients into clicking on a link is being sent throughout the web, it has been reported.
Online resource Hoax-Slayer has highlighted a new scam which claims to be from someone who has already hospitalised one victim and intends to hunt the recipient down and do the same to them.
Then, the message entices them to click a link which the site asserts shows proof that the recipient has wronged them.
In fact, Hoax-Slayer noted, this link directs the PC user to a malware-ridden site which tries to infect the computer with a virus.
"Malware emails like this try to use fear as a means of tricking people into inadvertently infecting their computers. Some recipients may believe that they are in real danger," the website explained.
Often, phishing attacks purport to be from financial organisations such as banks and request that people respond to confirm their bank details.
Usually, such attacks are intended to steal sensitive information which can be used for identity theft.
