Phishing attacks made against TDS customers

US firm TDS has warned consumers that it is urgently dealing with a number of phishing attacks.

Its clients have received a number of fraudulent emails over the last few days, claiming to be from the company and requesting sensitive information such as passwords.

TDS spokeswoman DeAnne Boegli told online publication Madison that some recipients were aware that it must be a phishing attempt and responded angrily.

However, in such cases they increase the chances that hackers will discover how to access their accounts and so any customer receiving such a communication should not respond, the publication urged.

Ms Boegli stated that as far as TDS is aware, compromised accounts are just being used for spamming purposes.

Recently, there have been a number of reports suggesting a rise in the number of income tax phishing scams.

A number of fraudsters have claimed to be part of the Internal Revenue System, reportedly making use of graphics stolen from the website and citing believable codes and laws to make their requests for personal details appear more official.
