Phishers exploiting Google calendar
Internet users with the Google calendar installed on their machines have been warned to watch out for a phishing scam designed to trick them into exposing themselves to online threats.
In a bid to convince increasingly aware internet users to give up their user names and passwords, the crooks have resorted to including potential victims' real names and email addresses.
Using an example of one such email, which looks identical to a genuine Google Calendar invite, Graham Cluley of Sophos says the scam carries through without leaving the Google calendar website.
Users' login details are requested by the email but the internet security expert says that this is where "alarm bells should definitely be ringing in your head".
"It should be obvious to everyone that Google is very unlikely to send out an email of this nature and that it wouldn't ask you to confirm whether you wanted your account to continue by accepting an invitation on your Google Calendar," he said.
This scam was first reported in the summer.
