Phishers attack Quad-City residents
Online scammers are continuing to attack residents of the Quad-City region in Mississippi, it has been reported.
Phishing attempts have been made in which recipients were informed their credit union had suspended their accounts in an attempt to gain confidential information, local paper the Quad-City Times noted.
Another such email, also purporting to be from the credit union, offered members $50 (£26) and more to take part in an online survey - really just a front for gaining debit card details.
Some phishing communications have claimed to be from the Wells Fargo Bank and Sandra Fording Foreman, spokeswoman for the organisation, told the newspaper customers should use anti-virus software and be cautious when sent unsolicited emails.
"Phishing is an industry-wide problem. Please be assured that these emails are randomly sent and that no Wells Fargo customer information or customer lists have been compromised," she added.
Recently, American consumers have been hit by a spate of phishing emails purporting to be from the IRS - some of which carry viruses.
