Performance reduction 'often due to malware'
Sometimes computers experience a reduction in performance over time and one possible cause is poor computer protection, it has been claimed.
The Final Call, an online resource for America's black community, reported that sometimes slow performance is a result of computer viruses, worms, Trojan horses and other malware infecting a machine.
It stated that the disruption caused can range from "simple annoyances" such as an overload of pop-ups or larger issues such as hard drive failure.
"The number, types and effects of malware increase daily, so protection from these programs is essential.
"And as is the case with human health, prevention is the best cure," it noted.
Microsoft explains that malware is a catch-all term for any software which is designed to damage a computer or network.
These could range from spyware to viruses, it notes, urging home computer users to ensure their anti-virus software is up to date to keep their machine protected.
