PC Security 'remains a concern'
Although the number of viruses infecting PCs has fallen over the last few years, internet security is still a major concern, an expert has claimed.
MJ Shoer, president and virtual chief technology officer of Jenaly Technology Group, made his comments to local web resource SeaCoastOnline.com.
He warned that viruses still exist and the technology behind them is strengthening.
"Anti-virus software and spam filters can protect a machine from threats, however, you also have to keep in mind that the human element is the last and most important line of defence", Mr Shoer urged.
Users should take care when opening emails from strangers and be wary of passing their account details on in response to unsolicited emails claiming to be from their bank, he added.
In its 2006 cybercrime report, America's Internet Crime Complaint Centre reported an all-time high financial loss as a result of people falling victim to email scams.
Such fraudulent activity is more commonly known as phishing.
