PC remain insecure to malware and viruses
The average PC is still unsecure to malware and virus exploitation, it has been claimed.
According to Secunia, browsing the web and internet security are now inseparable, but the average PC user has become over confident.
Many believe anti-virus software to be more effective than it actually is.
According to the firm's recently released world map of insecure PC's the scale of malware infection is a global problem.
The world map of patched and unpatched PCs shows that many nations are leaving their IT infrastructure vulnerable to attack from cybercriminals by using cross-browser plugins such as Adobe Flash Player, QuickTime, or Sun's Java platform.
Mikkel Winther, Secunia partner manager, said: "The fact that US based PC users have more than 2.7 billion vulnerable programs installed are shocking! And quite frankly I am very surprised.
"We had an idea it would be bad, but couldn't imagine the enormous scope of this problem."
