PayPal warns users to safeguard account details

Internet payment service provider PayPal has offered advice to UK businesses on minimising the negative impact of phishing scams.

According to the financial services firm, fraudulent email campaigns are getting more sophisticated and businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to avoid falling victim to them.

PayPal has revealed giveaway signs that an email is actually a link to a phishing site, including generic greetings and a fake sender's address.

The company claims emails of this kind should be deleted immediately and that people should be wary of messages that require an urgent response.

Garreth Griffith, head of risk management at PayPal UK, said: "If they have an urgent message for you, they will let you know when you login to your account on the legitimate website."

"Always remember, the actual website that you go to when you click on a link in an email is not always the same one as the email link describes.," he added.

Meanwhile, Yahoo has recently built PayPal into its webmail service.
