Patch IE 7 vulnerability, expert recommends

Internet users have been warned to ensure that they have the latest online security patches issued by computer giant Microsoft or their risk being exposed to online threats.

Microsoft issued a patch to cover a vulnerability known as MS09-002 in Internet Explorer (IE) 7, which could make it possible for malicious webpages to run code on compromised machines.

An online security expert has revealed that a website carrying code that exploited the vulnerability has been discovered, which makes it vital for internet users that have not patched their machines to do so.
Commenting on the discovery, Graham Cluley, the chief technology officer of security vendor Sophos said Microsoft does not issue patches and advisories "for fun".

"Every month Microsoft issues a bundle of security patches for users of its software and customers are urged to install them before the bad guys exploit them," he advised.

As well as ensuring patches are updated, experts recommend having proper internet security software and active firewalls.
