Organisations lack basic PC security
New data from anti-virus software manufacturer Sophos has revealed more than 80 per cent of organisations had a 'sloppy attitude' when it comes to internet security.
Using information gathered from its free online scanning tool which scans PCs for security weaknesses, the company discovered eight out of ten computers lacked at least one type of basic security, reports Vnunet.
Revealing that the problem affected both small and large companies, John Shaw, director of endpoint security and control at Sophos urged all administrators not to take anything for granted as this may turn out to be costly later.
He said: "I would challenge them to run this free tool and double-check the security levels within their network. The findings have been staggering."
The research from the IT security firm also revealed many computers did not have the latest Microsoft internet security software, some missed endpoint security software updates while others had missing firewalls.
An Indian expert recently warned individuals running small businesses that they were at an unusual risk of suffering the effects of malware and email problems due to a lack of understanding of online threats on the internet.
