Online threats 'go unnoticed'
Many websites are compromised without the owner becoming aware, as online threats become more cunning, it has been claimed.
Writing on the Bright Stove blog, mengchow notes that malicious code is now being injected into website databases rather than corrupting content when it is retrieved.
As a result, the unwanted code is served to the user when the site is accessed without necessarily being detected, he writes.
"Many website owners don't even know that their websites have been compromised, as the attackers are very clever in their tactics," the author suggests.
He adds: "The exploit code gets served out by the application in the usual manner and bingo, the end-user systems get the infection."
The post notes that this is only likely to occur if the end-user is not protected against the online threat served by the site.
In a previous post on the blog, mengchow observed that a growing number of people are looking to educate their children on the importance of protecting against online threats so that "everyone can drive safely on the information superhighway".
