Online threats continue to increase
Data security and online threats continue to increase in their quantity and sophistication, according to a recent report.
Networking equipment supplier Cisco has stated as one of its key findings in its 2008 Annual Security Report that online threats are becoming more difficult to detect and are increasing in volume.
The report looked at information collected between January and October this year and discovered that spam accounts for 90 per cent of the email sent worldwide.
This equates to some two billion messages every day.
Over the year, Cisco saw a 90 per cent growth in online threats starting from justifiable domains, but an improvement is noted in the work carried out to snuff out these threats.
Computer owners could use internet security software to improve their computer protection and security researchers are also stepping up their quest to review and identify problems.
Research by Sophos recently stated that a new webpage is infected by malware worldwide every 4.5 seconds, with the UK responsible for an increasing number of sites being hijacked by online criminals.
