Online security: Use vetted websites
Consumers do not have to worry as long as they are making their online purchases through approved websites, an industry member has explained.
Simon Crisp, director of consumer guidance website Shopsafe.co.uk, commented that he would always recommend shoppers use sites with a badge of approval from SecureCode - which is verified by Visa and Mastercard.
His statement comes just a few months after his organisation released the results of a survey which revealed that an increased number of consumers have real concerns over the online threat of fraud.
Last year, Mr Crisp warned that as the number of ecommerce websites rises, so do the opportunities for thieves to target consumers with fraudulent scams.
"This popularity growth has also meant that more people are hearing stories at first hand from victims of identity fraud, which has obviously raised awareness about the potential pitfalls," he continued.
Mr Crisp added that consumers should print and save their payment receipts and only make purchases through thoroughly vetted websites.
