Online security expert warns of new attack techniques
An online security expert has warned that hackers are using "convergence techniques" to carry out advanced attacks on consumers.
According to Cloudmark, the global leader in carrier-grade messaging security, converged operators attacks from cyber crooks are on the increase and service providers need to review their security strategies.
The company says it has observed online attackers using new, advanced threat techniques that combine attributes of spam, phishing and malware into a single attack, which is then sent to different platforms.
These attacks are able to evade traditional security solutions due to their multiplicity, which finds gaps because most solutions are designed for a specific type of attack, such as a spam or virus outbreak.
"To combat today's threats, the only truly effective security solution is one that can stop all forms of abuse," said Jamie de Guerre of Cloudmark.
"Only by sealing all potential gaps can service providers deploy new converged services with confidence that both the platforms and their subscribers are protected against today's known abuses and tomorrow's advanced threats."
