Online security concerns discourage shoppers
Consumers are concerned about the online security of their details when shopping on the internet and would prefer buying items from retailers that have more than one payment method, new research shows.
The financial security risks associated with ecommerce are a concern for 83 per cent of UK adults, who fear fraudsters are increasingly targeting the web, a survey commissioned by internet payment system ClickandBuy has demonstrated.
Only 42 per cent of those that regularly shop online are completely confident that their credit card details are safe on ecommerce sites.
The safety of credit card details on the internet was cited by 54 per cent of those who do not shop online as the main reason preventing them from doing so.
Nick Drew, the e-commerce operations director at ClickandBuy, said: "The message to merchants is clear - consumers are prepared to shop more online, but they need to feel completely comfortable and secure in doing so."
According to a recent Javelin Strategy & Research study sponsored by Acculynk, eight in ten people would readily use their credit or debit card if prompted by a trusted entity.
