Online job hunters 'should be alert to scams'
People searching for jobs online need to be aware that they may be targeted by cyber criminals.
Get Safe Online warns that those looking for positions opening up over the web should double check any offer details to make sure they aren't used as a 'money mule'.
Tony Neat, managing director of the group, said that alarm bells should be "ringing furiously" to anyone that spots something suspicious while applying.
"They will be advertising for a senior executive, where you will be based in the UK and any money that comes in will come in to you to pass over to them," he said.
"Those sorts of things are for laundering money. That's what you've got to look out for."
Figures from the McAfee Virtual Criminology Report 2008 show that cyber crime has expanded.
It has grown from isolated attacks initiated by individuals or small rings to well-funded, well-organised operations using sophisticated technology and social engineering, the research said.
