Obama and McCain attacked by hackers during campaign
Foreign hackers are said to have compromised the networks of both Barack Obama's and John McCain's campaign networks during the just concluded presidential campaign.
According to Newsweek, insiders from both camps revealed to the magazine that their online security had been breached and internet security experts at the Obama headquarters initially thought it was just a virus.
"FBI and White House officials told the Obama campaign that they believed that a foreign entity or organisation sought to gather information on the evolution of both camps' policy issues," Newsweek reported.
Apparently the hackers, whom the Obama camp thought were either Chinese or Russian, were looking for data that they could exploit if they were to enter into any negotiations with a future administration.
The attacks reportedly prompted both camps to invest in internet security consultants to cover the issue and prevent a recurrence.
Chinese hackers have been accused before by the UK, Germany and France.
