Notebook security solution launched
A series of new security services for notebooks has been launched this week by Dell.
On Monday (June 30th), the pc manufacturer revealed that its ProSupport services had been extended to include a number of things designed to help track and recover lost notebooks.
The offerings include services such as laptop tracking and recovery, extended battery warranties, remote data deletion, hard drive data recovery and accidental damage repair.
In addition, notebook batteries are being offered extended service coverage, which means that during the coverage period users can be provided with one replacement battery.
What's more, Dell is also offering a service which covers notebook users for accidents not usually covered by warranties, such as power surges, spillages or dropping the mobile pc.
Recent research conducted by the Ponemon Institute on behalf of Dell found that as many as 12,000 laptops are lost in US airports every week.
Commenting on the findings, Ponemon chairman Larry Ponemon said: "It's staggering to learn that up to 600,000 laptops are lost in US airports annually, many containing sensitive information that companies must account for.
In February this year, Dell launched its ProSupport services for businesses in a bid to develop its operations beyond that of a computer supplier.
