New Mac malware detected
Two new variants of malware targeted at Mac computers have been detected.
The first, Tored-Farm, is a new incarnation of the popular Tored malware and propagates its malicious code through email attachments.
Circulating since 2008, the original version collects email addresses and then forwards itself onto them.
According to anti-virus software provider Sophos, the new version of the software is designed to develop a Mac botnet, which are linked by a Tunisian malware writer known as Ag_Raed.
The second malicious code uncovered is a Trojan known as Jahlav-C. It masquerades as an Active video codec and was first discovered on June 10th 2009.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant, Sophos said the proliferation of Mac malware is going hand-in-hand with increased sales of the devices.
He claimed that an increasing number of people were ditching their Windows-based computers because of the excessive number of virus attacks and pop-up problems they were experiencing.
Meanwhile, PC World claims that cybercriminals are increasingly working together to create huge botnets.
