New cybercrime platform launched
Cyber crime activity has been causing grief and havoc to many consumers worldwide but a new online service promises to bring some relief to US consumers.
CheckMEND, a web service which is already in service in Europe according to the owners "offers a platform for identifying serial numbered stolen and counterfeit property offered on the internet".
CEO Adrian Portlock, said: "The growth in second-hand consumerism, driven by a difficult economy and the exploding popularity of internet auction, marketplace and classified sites, is dramatically increasing the emergence online of stolen goods such as cellular phones, laptops and GPS devices."
He said the web was so full of stolen property that many big law enforcement organisations were now turning to "such websites to catch criminals and retrieve stolen goods".
The service is said to be in possession of a database with more than 100 million records of information that purchasers can access before buying an item online.
The database can be accessed in real time from the CheckMEND website where consumers can carry out the safe and easy 'affordable checks'.
