Nato urges malware caution
Anti-virus software suppliers have done a good job in protecting PCs from malware but such programs must be kept up-to-date, an expert has urged.
Speaking at an online-security conference, Suleyman Anil, head of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation's (Nato's) Computer Incident Response Capability Coordination Centre, said anti-virus software has to be regularly updated, Computer Weekly reports.
"I have little sympathy for IT managers who complain about attacks, because affordable, deployable solutions are available," he stated.
However, "the computer is almost the perfect weapon", because it is low-cost, low-risk and easily deployed, Mr Anil continued.
The publication reported that Nato considers cybercrime to be as vital to international security as energy supply and missile defence.
Nato's Computer Incident Response Capability Coordination Centre urges users to keep their PCs protected from malware.
It notes that humans keep themselves protected from illnesses by ensuring their vaccinations are up to date and suggests they apply the same approach to their computers.
