Mumbai residents wary of Wi-Fi related online threats
Following a spate of hackings in India, Mumbai residents are shying away from Wi-Fi technology, reports say.
Several individuals including some big organisations wary of online threats are said to be reviewing their stand on Wi-Fi and some have even put on hold plans to install the next generation broadband, according to the Times Of India.
One such organisation is Thane's Jupiter Hospital. "Our Hyderabad-based consultants have asked us not to go ahead with [installation] in view of the recent hacking incidents," admitted hospital CEO Ajay Thakkar.
Online security experts are however worried by the development and are urging the adoption of simple internet security measures.
"I agree Wi-Fi has a lot of flaws that can be used by hackers or terrorists. But even the hardcore hacker can be kept away if certain simple rules are followed," said expert Vijay Mukhi.
After the recent Ahmedabad blasts, US national Ken Haywood found himself on the receiving end after it was discovered that his computer was compromised then used to send a terrorist email related to the attacks.
