MP aims to tackle phishing with awareness
A British member of parliament has decided to tackle phishing head on by trying to reduce the impact the internet security issue has on consumers through awareness.
Nigel Evans, the chairman of the all-party parliamentary group on identity fraud, has embarked on the mission after being subjected to over 40 such scams, according to Politics.co.uk.
The MP for Ribble Valley says ignorance among consumers needs to be removed by educating people about online threats and wants phishing victims including consumers and businesses to get in touch with him.
"People have got to be wary that there is nobody who is trying to give them £100s and £1,000s to transfer money from their account to yours," he told the website.
"There are no organisations entering your name into a lottery when they tell you that you have won millions, you have not."
A man was recently left £130,000 out of pocket after falling for such a scam on the internet involving a woman from Nigeria.
