Mozilla Firefox 'D Day' a success
As Mozilla awaits confirmation from the Guinness Book of World Records about its ambitious plan to set a record for the most amount of software downloads in a 24-hour period, Firefox 3 continues to rake in the numbers.
The web browsing software that boasts improved internet security features and speed hit and passed the projected target of five million downloads on 'download day', recording eight million hits as fans clamoured to get their hands on the third offering.
The software, which the manufacturers say received 15,000 changes and improvements is rapidly spreading across the market and according to the latest figures, has been downloaded almost 18 million times.
This is despite revelations of a 'critical security flaw' in both the new browser and Firefox 2 that led the manufacturers to issue a statement on the company blog stating "the risk to users is minimal. We are investigating the vulnerability".
Some of the new features in the high performance browser include phishing and malware protection, one-click bookmarking, built-in spell checking, session restore and a smart location bar.
