'More' malware-ridden websites
An increasing number of trusted websites contain malware or code which redirects the browser to a site containing malware, a new report has warned.
Analysis firm Forrester Research has published a report into the number of online threats, noting that although malware used to only be rampant on "questionable" websites, it is now often found on more trusted pages, IT Week reports.
Report author Chenxi Wang commented that there are "countless examples" of websites compromised in this way.
"It's important for operators of trusted sites to be extremely vigilant about the security of their sites so that there is no possibility they could be compromised," the analyst continued.
Last year, search engine giant Google warned that one in ten internet pages are infected with malware.
The portal's research team inspected 4.5 million pages and found 450,000 contained malicious coding - with a further 700,000 sites considered suspicious.
Such website security issues are referred to by some as "drive-by downloads".
