Monster feels the brunt of cyber crooks
Jobseekers have been targeted by cyber crooks who managed to compromise the online security of a leading job portal and steal details of its users earlier this month.
Monster.com has revealed that cyber crooks broke into its systems and made away with personal data of its users including user IDs and passwords, emails, names, phone numbers and "some basic demographic data".
However, the company says sensitive data such as social security numbers or personal financial data were not stolen and added that despite the theft, it is yet to see the information being misused.
According to Patrick Manzo, senior vice president and global chief privacy officer of the organisation, safety and security are important to the organisation and users should "feel confident using it".
The firm is now advising individuals holding an account with it that they may be required to change their passwords upon logging onto the site.
A weak password by a Twitter user who also happened to be an employee of the micro-blogging site recently opened a back door to a cyber crook who hacked into high profile members' accounts.
