Modern viruses 'more deliberately harmful'
Viruses that are currently being deployed around the internet are more deliberately harmful than those seen a few decades ago, according to one expert.
Steven Vaughan-Nichols writing for Computer World has suggested that while damage caused by malware in the late 1980s and during the 1990s could cause significant damage to internet-based systems, they were not always being deliberately deployed for this purpose.
However, in the 21st century businesses and internet users in general ought to be aware that their computer could potentially fall victim to an online threat from a fraudster whose activities are part of a criminal strategy.
Explaining the attitude of a modern hacker and internet virus user, Mr Vaughan-Nichols said: "Most 21st century crackers aren't making malware to show off their skills.
"They're making malware that hides in your system so they can use your personal information and PC resources to make money."
Meanwhile, a report from ComputerWeekly.com suggests that poor programming standards in China have been responsible for some of the hacker attacks going on in various parts of the world in recent months.
