Mobile malware set to increase
Growing online threats and mobile malware targeting mobile appliances such as smartphones have spurred calls for more internet security for the devices as more people use them.
According to the latest report from Unstrung Insider, many businesses and individuals are increasingly using the devices and it is a matter of time before crooks turn their full attention to them.
"Mobile malware security vendors are preparing for wide-scale attacks by hackers-attacks that eventually will be as headline grabbing as those that hit email systems," said Unstring analyst and the report's author Denise Culver.
"Their hope is that smartphone manufacturers, carriers and enterprises-not to mention smartphone users-will not wait until the threats have reached that level before securing their mobile systems."
According to the report, awareness on mobile malware among consumers has increased compared to a year ago, though many mobile users are yet to embraced mobile malware security to the extent that is needed.
