Microsoft warns of security vulnerabilities
Software giant Microsoft is warning customers of the need to take security problems seriously.
The announcement follows the discovery of new malware attacks aimed at the firm's Internet Explorer web browser.
According to Microsoft, the new attacks affect an Active X control for the Microsoft Office Web Components software.
The attack involves hackers creating a specially-designed spreadsheet and embedding it in a web page.
When the browser crashes the hacker can gain access to the rights of the current user.
Only last week the company issued a warning about a new attack which exploits a flaw in one of the company's video controls. However, the company has issued a work-around.
On Monday, IT industry expert Phil Mulkins said both the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Department of Homeland Security's Computer Emergency Readiness Team have warned of the importance of keeping anti-virus software up to date.
Writing for Tulsa World, Mr Mulkins said getting software that completes automatic scans is paramount.
