Microsoft patches Office PowerPoint flaw
An online security flaw in Microsoft Office PowerPoint that could make it possible for a hacker to remotely execute malicious programmes on users' computers now has a fix.
Microsoft has just released a patch to cover the critical vulnerability, which the firm has been investigating since the matter was brought to light early last month.
In a security advisory, Microsoft announced the issuance of MS09-017, which is aimed at addressing the flaw as well as sealing 13 other internet security holes in the PowerPoint programme.
The online security patch is issued as the company releases a series of fake internet security patches for computers already running its Windows 7 in a bid to test how the programme will perform in real life scenarios.
According to Windows 7 manager Brandon LeBlan, the fake patches, which were meant to start being rolled out from yesterday (May 12th), will be as many as ten and will not cater for any particular vulnerability.
