Malware: PC users must be cautious
Many of the world's computer users face a continuous barrage of malicious programs, such as viruses, Trojans and spyware, an expert has warned.
A blogger for online resource Detecting Adware Spyware warned PC users that such programs can swiftly compromise sensitive information such as credit card details and share it with criminals.
However, PC owners who exercise a reasonable level of caution and protect their machines should be able to surf the web safely and avoid falling victim to the cyber crooks, the post continued.
Appropriate caution means not opening unknown files, as well as installing anti-virus software, a firewall and anti-spyware programs, the post explained.
Furthermore, it added: "Freeware, such as free music, free screensavers, free games and even smiley face packages may contain malicious spyware and adware programs."
British security resource Get Safe Online recently urged people to be more security conscious when using social networking websites.
It found that 88 per cent of internet users have security software installed but added that many are unaware of the potential dangers posed by releasing information on such networks.
