Malware distribution increased in June
The amount of malware being distributed in June increased substantially, according to new research.
A study carried out by Fortinet showed that the month saw the "highest rate of phishing attacks to date".
The firm said that Trojans were still at the top of the most prolific malicious code list
Fortinet also claimed that recent anti-spam campaigns had had a disappointing effect on overall junk mail levels.
According to the firm, the majority of overall malware activity came from the United States, which was home to 22 per cent of all reported exploits.
Meanwhile, Singapore, Japan and Korea held second, third and fourth place respectively.
Online gaming websites were responsible for hosting the largest number of Trojans.
Denis Maslennikov, senior virus analyst at Kaspersky Lab, recently claimed that the threat of malware is becoming mobile.
He said an increasing number of viruses and Trojans are being used to target people's handsets.
