Malware concern over music downloads
Fans using websites to download music must be cautious of the online threat of malware, a blogger has urged.
Isaiah Henry, writing for the MP3Preview blog, noted that some sites will offer users free downloads which are legal.
This, he explained, is because many musicians want to promote their music and believe that offering it freely online is a good way to do so.
Mr Henry warned users to carefully select the site they use to ensure they do not unwittingly download a virus.
"Very often free sites and free downloads contain malware of all kinds and you will hardly love this free addition to the songs you get," he remarked.
However, he noted that those with anti-virus software on their computers should be protected against such online threats.
Despite this, the blogger recommended users are careful when downloading music.
Such malware is commonly referred to as a Trojan, as it masks itself as something the victim wants in order to infiltrate their PC.
