Malware 'biggest online threat to Australia'
Malware is the biggest online threat facing Australia, a leading authority has suggested.
The director of the Australian High Tech Crime Centre James McCormack told online news resource Computer World that tackling cybercrime is a major priority.
He stated that the malware threat "keeps him awake at night" as it is a developing problem, with viruses growing in capability.
In addition to viruses, the director explained that phishing continues to be a problematic threat with a number of people continuing to fall for the fraud and clicking on the links.
This is in part because the "sophistication of the emails they are getting these days [has] improved over the past couple of years - fewer spelling mistakes and much more polished" Mr McCormack added.
Last year, the Australian High Tech Crime Centre urged consumers to be aware of a warning from the Australian Federation Police.
The police urged consumers to be aware that in addition to fraudulent scams, some phishing messages contain viruses and spyware.
