Malware 'an evolving online threat'
The nature of online threats such as malware is still evolving, a new report geared towards UK firms has warned.
PricewaterhouseCoopers has published research which shows that although there has been a substantial fall in the number of firms reporting malware, the companies that were compromised reported that it had caused their worst information security breach.
Hackers have developed increasingly sophisticated software, which is rapidly becoming more capable of hiding its activities, the firm noted.
Furthermore, spyware was responsible for one-sixth of the worst infections, the report added.
Chris Potter, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, commented: "The message from this survey is clear - if you haven't got anti-virus and anti-spyware software, you're way outside the benchmark."
Earlier this week, a spokeswoman for Small Business Computing commented that losing data through a security breach could cause a business' reputation to suffer as well as potentially hitting them with financial repercussions.
