Malware "a business" to cybercriminals
It is possible for cybercriminals to make money through malware and the creators of such programmes are hunting for new revenue streams, an expert has claimed.
Dan De Bolt, director of anti-spyware research at IT management-software manufacturer CA, made his comments to online resource MacNewsWorld.
An increasing number of hackers and the creators of malicious software are targeting Mac users by encouraging them to download software by pretending it is a useful programme, he claimed.
"This is a natural progression. Malware is a business today. Those in that business need new revenue streams," continued Mr De Bolt.
According to online IT resource Silicon, building malware is no longer something just teenagers do as they seek recognition from their cybercriminal peers but is now big business for large organisations seeking financial gain.
It warned that although an increasing number of people are aware of the threats of viruses and other malicious software, millions fall victim to such programmes each year.
