Malicious websites increasing
The number of malicious websites has almost doubled in a month, according to the latest edition of the MessageLabs Intelligence monthly report.
Some 5,424 rogue websites are blocked per day, representing an increase of 48.2 per cent since September, the report says.
The report has highlighted the need to have proper online security as one in 141 emails in October contained malware and even though the figure is a 0.05 per cent decrease from September other online threats increased.
Phishing registered an increase of 0.08 per cent with one in 233 emails comprising a phishing attack while spam emails only lowered by 0.4 per cent and occupied 69.7 per cent of all traffic.
According to the report, the ongoing global financial crisis sparked a boom in financial spam and phishing attacks, which were joined in the ranks by Halloween spam too.
Crackdowns on cyber crooks and successful arrests helped to lower cyber crime but just a little, the report says.
