Madonna's tour spurs cyber threats
As Madonna's world tour readies for take off, fans are being warned to watch out for emails claiming to reveal the latest information on the material girl or risk being infected by malware.
Online security expert Sophos has issued a warning stating that music fans should stay clear of unsolicited emails on the upcoming event as cyber criminals are keen on exploiting the fete.
"Madonna may have turned 50, but she's still as big a draw to cyber criminals as young Hollywood upstarts like bad girl Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan," said senior technology consultant Graham Cluley.
"With the new world tour just around the corner, it's not surprising that the hackers are trying to capitalise on this."
He warned that despite exploiting topical stories being "one of the oldest tricks in the book" many may still fall victim as they are likely to "click before they think".
The warning comes in the wake of the discovery of a new wave of malware attacks claiming to contain a link to a scandalous video of Madonna.
The organisation has advised companies to automatically update their corporate virus protection.
