Lawyer takes on cybercrooks
A lawyer in the US has tried and failed to punish the creators of the malware which infected his girlfriend's computer, it has been reported.
Joseph Bochner examined his partner's machine as it had become slow, the Mercury News noted.
She had been tricked into purchasing a malicious program as it had promised to clean her PC of viruses and other malware.
Her attorney boyfriend pledged to track down the people responsible for the cybercrime and contacted federal agencies, software firms and state task force officials, the newspaper continued.
Despite his efforts, no cybercrook has been brought to justice and Mr Bochner told the publication: "I am astounded at the inaction."
Recently, the Federal Trade Commission warned consumers to be careful when using their computers, particularly if they intend to shop online.
It asserted that email is not a secure medium through which to send financial details such as credit card information.
