Large Hadron Collider compromised by hackers

Online security concerns have been raised following revelations that Greek hackers managed to infiltrate the Large Hadron Collider, it has emerged.

According to the Daily Telegraph, no damage seems to have been done in the move that saw the hackers compromise a computer system that was just "one step away" from a control computer.

The group going by the name Greek Security Team apparently wanted to highlight vulnerabilities in the biggest experiment in the world and posted messages taunting the experiments IT charges.

"We're pulling your pants down because we don't want to see you running around naked looking to hide yourselves when the panic comes," the newspaper quotes an excerpt from the hackers' message.

Scientists concerned by what damage could be done if the systems in charge of the experiment are breached have blocked access to the website for the experiment.

The experiment at Cern, Switzerland, the birth place of the internet, is being conducted in a bid to recreate the big bang.
