Karoo slated over online security move
Internet service provider (ISP) Karoo has been criticised after it stated that it will continue to suspend users for downloading illegal material.
Karoo, the only ISP operating in Hull, should revise its policy and not disconnect users, according to the Open Rights Group.
Jim Killock is executive director of the organisation, which aims to raise awareness of issues such as internet security and ID theft.
Mr Killock commented that the policy is "troubling" and that it restricts Hull customers since they are not able to end their relationship with Karoo unless they are willing to live without the internet.
He said: "They are still saying that they will disconnect users after a certain number of warnings, which we regard as completely disproportionate.
"They need to
look very carefully at it as a monopoly because people don't have any choice."
The founders of Pirate Bay were recently sentenced to a year in jail and ordered to pay $3.6 million (£2.4 million) in damages for infringing copyright.
