Internet users warned of checking on former classmates
Trying to find out what old classmates have been up to since leaving school may leave you exposed to online threats, users of networks such as Classmates.com and FriendsReunited have been warned.
This follows the discovery of a new malware campaign disguised as an invitation to an upcoming school reunion, according to online security expert Graham Cluley of Sophos.
"Clicking on the link doesn't of course take you to the real Classmates website, but a bogus site which tries to fool you into installing an update to Adobe Flash to view a video invitation to your school reunion," he warns.
"With many people returning to the office after the holiday break there is a danger that some will click on the link without thinking as they plough through their inboxes."
According to the internet security expert, the message is a malicious trojan horse designed to compromise the internet security of machines.
Similar campaigns targeting other social networking cites such as Facebook have been reported in the recent past.
