Internet security 'a shared responsibility'
Online security is everyone's responsibility and so it is vital that PC users regularly update their anti-virus software, an expert has said.
Tony Neate, managing director of British initiative Get Safe Online, explained that malware is an "ever-moving target".
He said that everyone has to keep up to speed and ensure their system is regularly updated with anti-malware tools.
"Security online is everybody's responsibility. All of us use technology, from silver surfers to children," Mr Neate continued.
Recently, Get Safe Online urged Britons to be more careful and vigilant when using social media websites.
It suggested that although many people are now more careful about installing security software on their machines, some are leaving themselves open to online threats by posting personal information on the web.
The organisation added that those aged between 18 and 24 are the most vulnerable as they often post information online.
Details such as a date of birth and address, it continued, are enough for a fraudster to set up a credit card and commit identity theft.
