'Innovative hackers' constantly upgrading malware
Computer hackers are constantly innovating and upgrading their malware, it has been claimed.
An article published by Australian technology news resource SearchSecurity has warned that many "bad guys" use technology pioneered by security researchers and professionals operating in the "computer underground".
"Regardless of your personal stance, the reality is malicious hackers will use whatever information is available to them," the report warned.
It called for security professionals to monitor information-sharing websites in order to anticipate the techniques and programs malware creators will use in the future.
The Australian Institute of Criminology explains that malware such as worms and viruses actively attack other computers from the PC they have infected and also degrades the operational capacity of the host machine.
Often Trojans are disguised using software a user may wish to download to their computer, it continues.
The institute suggests the most immediate line of defence a user can activate is an anti-virus program which is kept up to date.
