ING Direct USA pushes computer protection
It is essential that online banking customers can feel confident about their level of computer protection, according to ING Direct USA.
Online news resource Computing reports that the financial services provider is looking into ways in which computer protection can be ensured during banking even on machines infected with viruses or malware.
The moves follow research conducted on behalf of the bank which found that some anti-virus software can miss up to 80 per cent of malware infections.
Rob Weaver, head of IT security at ING Direct USA, tells the publication: "As a direct bank with no branches, our primary channel for customer interaction is the internet.
"Consumer confidence in the safety of this channel is critical for our business."
The article notes that malware aimed at banking users is becoming more sophisticated as efforts to raise levels of computer protection are intensifying worldwide.
Computing recently reported figures from UK payments association Apacs which revealed that losses through online banking fraud fell by a third between 2006 and 2007.
