Infected webpages on the rise
The volume of infected webpages is increasing every day with many firms' unaware their web presences are booby trapped, it has been claimed.
According to a study from Sophos, some 6,000 new infected webpages are discovered every day, equating to one every 14 seconds, theregister.com reports.
Moreover, 83 per cent of the owners of many of these infected sites are blithely unaware that they have been subject to hackers' attacks.
According to the IT news provider, this is illustrative of the change in approach from hackers who are moving away from virus-infected email as a means of spreading malware.
Instead, they are now likely to use spamvertising emails through which those targeted are linked to infected websites.
Sophos' findings come in the wake of a separate study conducted by Google which found that at least one in ten webpages are infected with malware.
